The largest private employer in Falkenberg municipality, Gekås in Ullared, needs 450 more workers for the coming holiday shopping season. It’s approximately 100 more than prior holiday seasons.
The discount mega store usually has 2000 employees on their payroll during the peak season. And the fall before Christmas is when they max out on sales volumes and the demand for staff members is the highest. That’s when Gekås needs more employees than any other time during the year.
The hiring climate is tougher this year because youth unemployment is very low. Another reason for the dire needs is that Gekås need truck drivers and cooks, which always is a profession in demand, even during slow seasons.
